     USCG approval for merchant mariner license candidates:  “This course (FA/CPR) has been determined to meet or exceed the standards of the American Red Cross and/or American Heart Association courses and will satisfy the first aid and CPR training requirements of 46 CFR 10.205(h)(1)(iii) and (h)(2)(iv) for a merchant mariner license”.

Basic First Aid for the Community and Workplace is a nationally recognized, evidence based first aid program designed to help students develop basic first aid knowledge, skills, and the confidence to respond to emergencies.  It is an objective driven, skills based program that covers emergency response, severe bleeding and shock, soft-tissue injuries, bone, joint, and muscle injuries medical emergencies, heat and cold related illness and injury, and more. 

Program participants learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of injuries and sudden illness. Crucial information about how to deal with emergencies like shock, burns, strains, strokes, and seizures is shared. This program is consistent with the recommendations of the 2005 National First Aid Science Advisory Board and OSHA’s best practices for first aid training programs in the workplace.
